99.9 SII -- EPISODE 2

So, episode 2 already aired (and subs should be already posted by the time this post is made public) so here is the complimentary post!

Feel free to share more in the comments!

1. Let's start with the flower bouquets at Madarame's office. There seem to be references of companies (and a person) from season 1.
会社MAX V -- MAX V's company. You may remember this company came up in season 1 (in episode 1)

オロゴンホビー社 -- Orogon Hobby Company. Makes reference to Bobby Ologon (This company also appeared in season 1, 7th episode I think)

菊池章雄 -- Kikuchi Akio (aka the defendant in episode 4 of season 1)

2. I didn't add this in the subs, because we already went over it in season 1. But the rugby ball Madarame keeps holding everytime he talks about Miyama's dad, is the one signed by the whole rugby team, Miyama's father included (obviously, with a pun... it runs in their blood it seems)

3. There are always references at Itokonchi ("At the cousin's). This land full of afro also hides other things.

こみこみこみこみ中 [Komi komi komi komi chuu] -- 仕込み中 [Komi chuu (In the middle of restocking)]

一揆禁止 [ikki kinshi (forbidden to riot)] -- is supposed to be 一気禁止 [Ikki kinshi (forbidden to drink all in one gulp)]. This appeared in season 1 too, and was somehow explained in the tbs webpage for the drama.

Kanako's new CD.
おやつじゃないのよ、バナナは [Oyatsu ja nai yo, banana wa (Bananas are not for snack) is a homage to 飾りじゃないのよ、涙は [Kazari ja nai yo, namida wa (Tears are not for decoration)] by Nakamori Akina.
Also, in the side it says "It's not a rip-off, it's a homage".

Is that Hoya-Boya? And Taguchi Japan?

Also, one of the guests in episode 1, Okada kazuchika, signed this for them.
"A rain of money will fall on Itokonchi"

About Kanako's poster, I mentioned a bit in the T/N.
The concert name, Kana Buzz, is actually a pun with kanabun (drone beetle) and bunbun (buzz), hence the poster of a flying beetle.
Also, check the praying mantis in the bottom, reference to Kagawa (Sada) [Check out "Teruyuki Kagawa's Amazing Insects!", where he dresses himself as Kamakiri-sensei and gives expert-like lectures to children on how amazing insects are]
It also mentions the appearance of 10 real drone beetles as guests.

And, I just died here remembering Akashi's incident with the beehive and the banana in season one (That was bananas!)

4. The calligraphy writing papers on the wall, make reference to typical products from Kanagawa.
きんぱく [kinpaku (gold leaf)]
のどぐろ [Nodoguro (Rosy seabass)]

5. This one seemed an interesting theory.
The "logo" of Kitchen Miyama is a stag beetle. "Miyama kuwabata" is actually a kind of beetle called Miyama Stag Beetle in Japan...

6. In this episode, the number of times Akashi has said "Akashi, ikimasu!" or "Akashi, shikimasu!" is huge. So, since I think I didn't explain the reference in season one... here it goes.
Actually, on of the characters from Gundam, Amuro, has the same line saying "Amuro ikimasu!" ["Amuro, let's do it!"].
The next bit also makes reference to Gundam, Matilda Ajan is also a character from Gundam.

7. In the wall:
大ふへん者 [dai fuhen mono (something like "really formidable one")]-- from what I read is a reference to Maeda Toshimasu (Also Keiji or Keijirou). It seems, when he joined Uesugi's army, he carried a flag saying that. At that time, the omision of voiced consonant marks was frequent, other samurais seeing it, complained like "what do you mean with great soldiers when you are a newcomer?", but Keiji (Toshimasu) made fun of that saying it was "dai fuben" (greatly inconveient).
At other time, they asked him what about him was poor (fuben mono [不便者], also used to mean poor person), and he said no, it is "dai fuben mono" (like "great military person"), and that it meant "somebody that excels in martial arts".
Maeda Toshimasu was from the Maeda Clan, that ruled the Kaga Domain from their headquarters in Kanazawa.
And till there the history lesson.

8. The bottle:
ひゃくまんゴクゴクフルーツ牛乳 [Hyakuman goku-goku furutsu gyuunyuu (Million gulps fruit milk)] in reference to 加賀百万石 [Kaga hyakuman goku (Kaga domain with one million goku)].
The latest is a phrase associated with Kanazawa.
Note: koku/goku is a rice measure.

9. When Maiko meets with the sister, there is this poster saying:
忘れても 傘忘れるな おつりも忘れるな (Even if you forget, don't forget the umbrella and the charm).

10. Be aware of the big amount of praying mantis!
I already explained about Kagawa's reference for this in a previous note, but I couldn't help but laughing at this one.

11. the marks in the post:

いろけよりくい池 [irokeyorikui ike] -- 色気より食い気 [iroke yori kuike (food before romance)]

阿波展望[Awa tenbou] -- あわてんぼう [awatenbou (hasty person)]

とつきと丘 [To Tsuki to oka] -- 十月十日 [totsuki tōka (October 10)]

12. In the shrine,
I mentioned this one in the T/N, but here it is again.
羽津鯉神社 [hadzu koi Jinja] -- 初恋神社 [Hatsu koi Jinja (first love shrine)]
There are more regarding the charms... But I'm too brain dead to get them now.

13. Now, I'm sorry if my biased self got this one the way I wanted and not how it is but the poster... SAKURABA WEAR.
Nothing else to say.

14. There are names of several alpinists in the entrance registry...
Noguchi Ken (野口健), Miura Yuichiro (三浦雄一郎), Kuriki Nobukazu (栗城史多).

15. In the local police office, there are posters of Ishikawa Hidemi, who is the mother of Yakumaru Sho, the one that plays Ogura Manabu in this episode.
His father is Yakumaru Hirohide, by the way.

16. The tea at Miyama's father's grave reads ぷらん茶 [puran cha] that may make reference to the pro-wrestling tecnique プランチャ・スイシーダ [purancha suishida (plancha suicida)]

That one reminded me... Was it only me the one that thought about Tachibana when the new paralegal talked about his pro-wrestle fan friend that is studying in USA?

Now... This one was seriously long. Hope it was useful, and hope you enjoyed the episode!

See you again for episode 3!

Oh, hadn't thought of that option.
Honestly, with all they add to each episode I've come to think everything is possible.

I was like "wait, wait wait WAIT!" XD
Like, could be a reference to anything I haven't caught because yeah, I don't live there and so, but my biased mind totally reached a conclusion on itself XD
